Background

Cabaret tells the story of Clifford Bradshaw, an American writer who visits Berlin when the Nazis are beginning to come to power. He meets Sally Bowles, a loose nightclub singer, and the two fall in love. However, tragedy is imminent, as the Nazi takeover begins, narrated by the leering Emcee. The show takes place around an about the Kit Kat Club, which quickly becomes a visual metaphor for the depraved and dangerous place that is Berlin.
