- Each team must consist of at least one
female player. Other player may be male or female
- Minimum $60 donation to National MS
Society will gain entrance into the tournament. Larger donations are recommended and
appreciated.
- Cash Prize of $300 for first place
plus a pair of Championship Belts, and $200 for second place
- The teams will compete in a
bracket-style tournament, similar to the NCAA basketball tournament
- Tournament will be a single
elimination tournament
- Each player will have 6 cups in front
of them (12 total on each side) in the form of a triangle
- When each team’s total cups have been
reduced to 6, those six cups will be merged together into one triangle of
six (consolidation) in the middle of the table
- Players will have the option of
playing with one 12 oz. beer divided amongst their six cups per game. If a
player chooses not to play with beer, they will play with water in their
cups
- When a team loses a game, they are
eliminated from the tournament, and the winning team advances to the next
round
- A game will start with both teams
having one ball. The lower seed will throw first, and then the other team
will follow by throwing both balls. Teams must take turns throwing, and
both players on a team must throw once
- When a team hits the last cup, that
last cup will stay on the table. The team that hit it will be the
"temporary winner"
- Once a team has made the last cup, the
other team will get both balls and each player will shoot until they miss.
If they are able to hit all remaining cups, the last cup will stay on the
table and the game will go to "overtime"
- Teams will be seeded in order of when
they register to play
- On any throw, once a ball hits the
table, a cup, a wall, or any other object, the defending team can knock it
away
- If a cup falls over because it is hit
by a normal shot or by the defending team, that cup will count. A cup may
not be intentionally knocked over by a hard throw
- No roll-backs
- No blowing in cups to stop a shot
- If a shot hits an opposing players arm
or any other part of their body before it hits a cup or table (unless the
ball has passed over the cups), the shooter will get to shoot again
- Players are allowed to have their
elbows over the table while shooting. Players are not allowed to rest
against the table while shooting, due to the laws of physics.
- Always dip the pong balls in the water
cup before shooting. Have some respect for the other team...
- If a ball happens to land and settle
in between three cups, the defending team may pickup the ball, and no cups
will have been hit. This is consistent with the rules above
- If a team is not around or able to be
found in 5 minutes after their game is announced, they will forfeit
- If a player from a team is unable to
make the tournament, or needs to leave in the middle of the tournament,
that player may be replaced. The
replacement must not be on another team that is playing, will be playing,
or has already played. The team
must continue to have at least one female player. Players are only allowed to play for one
team during the tournament.
- Overly competitive behavior will not
be tolerated in the tournament. The
goal of the tournament is to have fun and raise money for a good
cause. If anyone is displaying
overly competitive behavior, at the sole discretion of the tournament
organizers, they will get a warning. Any overly competitive behavior after the warning will result in
ejection (by The Giant) from the event and forfeiture of current and
future games
- Overtime Rules – The "temporary
winner" will decide which team will get both balls first. That team will
then have both players take one shot each at the remaining cup. Then the
other team will take one shot each at their remaining cup. If one team
hits more then the other, they win. If there is a tie, the process is
repeated until there is a winner
- Mulligans – Each team
will have the option of buying up to two (2) mulligans
when they sign-up for the tournament at a cost of $5 each mulligan. The team will be given a ticket for each
mulligan that can be used to redo any shot during the tournament (cannot
be used for the Side Game). The mulligans can be used by either player and can be used only after a missed shot by the person who missed the shot.
For example, if Player 1 misses a shot, and then
Player 2 shoots and misses, Player 2 may use a mulligan. However, Player 1 may not. You may also not use two mulligans in a row. Any unused mulligans at the end of the tournament may not be used by another team and will become void.
PONG-A-THON SIDE GAME RULES:
- The Pong-A-Thon Side Game is an
individual game. Any male or female
at the event, whether registered for the tournament or not, can
participate. Individuals can
participate as many times as they would like.
- The entry fee for each entry in the
Pong-A-Thon Side Game is $5.
- The Pong-A-Thon Side Game will open
around 4PM when the tournament opens, and will stay open through the end
of the round of 16. Once the final
eight teams in the main tournament have been decided, the Pong-A-Thon Side
Game will close.
- The goal of the Side Game is to hit three (3)
cups, together in a triangle, in as few shots as possible. The individual that hits the three cups
in the least amount of shots splits half the Side Game pot, and gets the ProPong Table that the game is
being
played on. The remaining half of
the Side Game pot goes as a donation to the National MS Society.
- All standard game rules apply,
however, there are some clarifications:
- Once
a ball hits anything except for a cup, or the table, it is out of play. If a ball hits a wall, the floor, a person
or
anything else, it is out of play.
- A
ball may be bounced into the cups if the individual would like. Again, if it hits anything other than a cup
or the table, it is out of play.
- As
each cup is hit, it will be removed from the table.
- Each
cup will be filled with water, so there is no drinking involved in the Side
Game.
- As each individual plays the
Pong-A-Thon Side Game, the lowest total shots to hit 3 cups will be
displayed. For each individual participant
that matches that number of shots and still has one or more cups
remaining, their game will be over. A participant will not be allowed to "finish out their game".
- If at the end of the round of 16,
there is more than one player tied for the lowest amount of shots, those
players will compete in a shoot-off before the round of 8 begins in the
tournament.
- The shoot-off will have each player
shoot at three cups with the same rules as above. If there are any tied at the end of the
shoot-off, those lowest scores will have another shoot-off, and those who
did not match the lowest score will be eliminated. This will continue until there is one
winner.
